World War II Illinois Veterans Memorial
The World War II Illinois Veterans Memorial has as its focal point a globe of the world symbolizing the conflict that involved more than 200 nations. More than 70 stainless steel buttons on the globe signify the major battles and events of World War II. Two black granite walls extend out from the globe approximately 100 feet and are engraved with the major battles and events of World War II
Lincoln Memorial Garden
A nature center with five miles of wooded trails lead you on a journey through the Illinois landscape Lincoln walked. Depending on the season you visit, you could discover springtime dogwoods in full bloom, colorful wildflowers of summer, burnished autumn leaves, or snow-covered maple trees bursting with sap. Located on the shores of Lake Springfield and designed by landscape architect, Jens Jensen.
Camp Butler National Cemetery
Once the site of a Union Civil War training camp and Confederate prison, now a national cemetery for veterans and their dependents.
Illinois Firefighter Memorial
This memorial stands in honor of the fire-fighters of Illinois who have given their lives in the line of duty and to those who heroically serve with courage and pride. Located at the Illinois State Capitol Complex.
Illinois Korean War Memorial
Octagon granite walls provide the foundation for this breathtaking monument. The names of 1,752 Illinois veterans killed in action are engraved on the granite walls as well as quotes from all of the branches of the Armed Forces. Surrounded by 300 Rose of Sharon Bushes, this memorial is located in Oak Ridge Cemetery near the Lincoln Tomb.
Illinois Police Officers Memorial
Dedicated on October 29, 1990, this memorial stands in memory of the Illinois police officers killed in the line of duty. Located at the Illinois State Capitol Complex.
